HBR®XL is a cross-linked closed-cell polyethylene foam backer rod used in building and concrete construction with either hot-pour or cold-applied sealants. It is comprised of closed cells and an impervious outer skin completely eliminating moisture intrusion. It is typically compressed approximately 25 percent to fit tightly into the joint and function as a bond-breaker to prevent back-side adhesion of the sealant. It is commonly used in applications such as concrete expansion, construction and contraction joints, parking decks, roadway, highway and bridge construction. HBR® is chemically inert, and therefore is physically and chemically compatible with virtually all known hot-pour and cold-applied sealants including self-leveling types. HBR®XL has a high temperature limit of 410 degrees F. Sealant compatibility should be confirmed by the sealant manufacturer. HBR®XL fully complies with ASTM D 5249, Type 1 physical property requirements.
